Boogie attended New Kent schools graduating from New Kent High School in 1944. He was drafted into the US Army in 1945 where he served in the US Army Air Corps and was selected to attend Officer Candidate School. He was discharged in 1946 as a Second Lieutenant and returned to work on the family farm in New Kent.

In the fall of 1947, Boogie enrolled in Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University with his brother Preston. Boogie played on the varsity baseball team for three seasons as a pitcher and graduated in 1951.

While at Virginia Tech, Boogie met Anna Hill, a nursing student at Roanoke Memorial. They were married on July 17, 1953, in Blacksburg, Virginia.

In addition to his parents, Boogie was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Anna Hill Davis, his six brothers, Lloyd, Robert, Clyde, William, Whitfield, and Preston and his seven sisters Louise, Eva, Julia, Virginia, Lillian, Gertrude, and Frances.

Boogie is survived by his son, Paul Davis and wife Marian, and daughters Cynthia Burnett and husband Stuart and Donna Gammon and husband Bill, all residents of New Kent County; five grandchildren, Trudy VanDyke, Anna Stuart Lambert, Tricia Davis, Davis Gammon, and Slater Gammon; four great-grandchildren, Grady VanDyke, Evie VanDyke, Preston Lambert, and Clark Lambert; and over 50 nieces and nephews.

Boogie grew up farming in New Kent and loved farming and helping farmers. He was employed by the Virginia Tech Extension Service as an Extension Agent for New Kent and Charles City Counties from 1969 until his retirement in 1989.

Boogie enjoyed reading, playing bridge, attending sporting events, and spending time with friends and family.
