Samuel Dale Cornwell Sr, 72, of Manassas Virginia passed away, Monday, August 16, 2021, at Novant Health UVA Prince William Medical Center.
He was born on May 6, 1949, in Washington, D.C., the son of the late Floyd "Pinky" Cornwell and Christine (Ratcliff) Cornwell.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife Catherine Cornwell. Survivors include his four children, Michael A. Cornwell of Manassas, Virginia, Jason D. Cornwell, of Manassas, Virginia, Christine M. James and husband Kevin of Bristow, Virginia, Samuel D. Cornwell, Jr. of Manassas, Virginia; five grandchildren, Brandon Cornwell, Kaya James, Kierra James, Keenan James, Kaylah James; three brothers Mason Cornwell of Gulfport, Mississippi, Ronald (Dean) Cornwell and wife Beverly of Port Charlotte, Florida, Kevin (Scott) Cornwell and wife Nancy of Elizabethton, TN.
He is a combat veteran of the Vietnam War, where he earned several medals, including the Purple Heart, Bronze Star with "V" device, Bronze Star, and The Army Commendation Medal.
Family and friends will gather on Wednesday, August 25, 2021, from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 PM at Pierce Funeral Home, 9609 Center St. Manassas, VA 20110. A funeral service will be held at Pierce Funeral Home on Thursday, August 26, 2021, at 10:00 AM. Internment along with military honors will follow at 11:30 AM at Quantico National Cemetery, 18424 Joplin Rd. Triangle, VA 22172.
