Professional hockey player. Born James Ryan Hayes was drafted in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. He played the right wing position for the Chicago Blackhawks, the Florida Panthers, the Boston Bruins and the New Jersey Devils. He was traded by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2010 to the Blackhawks. He did not make his NHL debut until 2011 against the Detroit Red Wings. He scored his first goal January 2, 2012 while playing the Edmonton Oilers. He participated in the fifth game of the Stanley Cup playoffs in 2012. He was once again traded in 2013 to the Florida Panthers where in the 2015-2015 season he enjoyed his first full season scoring 19 goals and 35 points in 72 games a career high. In 2015 he was traded to the Boston Bruins and signed a three year contract with them. In December of 2015 he scored his first ever NHL "Hat Trick" against the Ottawa Senators. On June 30, 2017 after his worst season the Bruins bought out the remainder of his contract. On October 1, 2017 he signed a one-way contract with the New Jersey Devils. In 2018 he signed a one year contact with the Pittsburgh Penguins but before the season started the moved him to their affiliate team the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. During his career he played in 334 games, had 54 goals, 55 assist and scored 109 points. He was found dead at his home in Milton, Massachusetts. An autopsy later revealed that he died as a result of ingesting a mixture of fentanyl and cocaine.
