Melva Fairclough Christofferson passed away November 9, 1998. Beloved wife of the late James W. Christofferson. Dear sister of Jack Fairclough and June Fairclough Beer. Beloved mother of Richard J. and Jay P. Christofferson. Loving grandmother of Karen and Richard Christofferson, Lise Trujillo, and Cathy Davidson; Holly, Jay A., and Scott Christofferson; and great-grandmother of Megan, John Henry, and James Robert Davidson.
Melva was born on November 16, 1904, in Salt Lake City. She grew-up on Second West and graduated from West High School. Melva went on to earn a degree in Physical Education from the University of Utah. She married James Christofferson in Salt Lake City on October 14, 1926.
Melva will be remembered for her devotion and effort for the Vallejo, California, 2nd Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the Oakland, California, Temple; by fellow members of UFCW Local 0373, Vallejo; for her many years at Crowley's Department Store, Vallejo; by members and families of the Vallejo Public School District for her year as a teacher; and by her friends from the RETIREES Club, Vallejo, who shared many fond memories of their extensive and world-wide travels together.
A graveside service will be held Friday, November 13, 1998, 11:30 a.m., Salt Lake City Cemetery, 4th Ave. and N St. Friends may call at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple, Thursday evening 6-8 p.m., and again on Friday, 10-11 a.m., prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made in Melva's memory to the National Osteoporosis Foundation.
