Mackay Man Dies In Crash
A Mackay man who would have celebrated his 40th birthday Monday was killed late Saturday when his pickup truck was struck by a Union Pacific freight train near Notus.
The victim, the 189th on Idaho highways this year, was identified as Boyd Beverland.
His body was thrown approximately 200 feet down the track from the point of impact. Canyon County authorities quoted the train's engineer, Kenneth Starkey's of Glenns Ferry, as saying the train was traveling about 65 miles an hour. There has been 190 traffic deaths on this date a year ago. Boyd Beverland was born at Moore Aug. 25, 1929, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Seymour Beverland. He had attended school at Moore, and had been employed throughout East Idaho as a truck driver.
At the time of his death, he was driving truck for a Notus feedlot.
Surviving are two brothers; Clyde Beverland, Arco, and Dennis Beverland, Mackay; three sisters survive; Mrs. Betsy Ive, Mackay, and Mrs. Ila Wood, Arco. His widow, Joan, lives in Caldwell. Four children survive; Jackie Jo, 14; Duxie Lou, 12, Odessa Ann, 10 and a son Johnnie Boyd, 7, all of Caldwell.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday from the Moore LDS Chapel. Interment will be in the Moore Cemetery under direction of the Flahill Funeral Home, Caldwell.
