For we are strangers before thee, and sojourners, as were all our fathers:
our days on the earth are as a shadow, and there is nothing abiding.
1 Chronicles 29:15

Myrtle Huff Baker ended her long journey in this strange land on August 3rd, 2021 in Poplarville, MS and is finally home.

Myrtle Mae was born June 26, 1923 in Birmingham, AL to Grover Cleveland and Myrtle May Blanchard Huff. She was the fifth child and first daughter born into this family. She was raised with her brothers and sisters in and around Mobile, AL. She graduated from Murphy High School in 1940. After graduation Myrtle worked for Murphy High School and the Gulf, Mobile & Ohio Railroad.

Myrtle's life changed on a train trip north to Wisconsin to visit family when she met a young man that she "thought was cute and gave her phone number, but never expected him to call." Upon returning to her boarding house after her summer vacation her landlady asked her to "call that boy so he would stop calling!". She did, and she and Robert Warren Baker were married at All Saints Episcopal Church in Mobile, AL on November 8th, 1942 before he was to go overseas with the Army Air Force. She continued living and working in Mobile and volunteered with the Red Cross while Robert was gone. After the War ended and Bob returned home he re-enlisted and they were stationed in Washington, D.C.; Kyoto, Japan; Salt Lake City, Utah; Albuquerque, NM (it was here, at Kirtland AFB, that their daughter, Therese Louise was born in 1959); Biloxi, MS and Minot, ND. In 1965, while in Minot, ND, Bob decided to retire from the Air Force and they moved to the Mississippi Gulf Coast. They lived in Moss Point and Myrtle worked for Terrell Homes, Bright Homes and the Mississippi Board of Realty. Robert died in 1995 and Myrtle lived in their home in Moss Point until she moved to Blueberry Hill PCH in Poplarville, MS in 2012.

Myrtle is preceded in death by her husband, Robert; her parents; her brothers and sisters and their spouses: Philip Stephen (Margaret); Robert Grover (Helen); Lucius Conel (Mary); Wilber David; Sarah Eliza (F.M.) Snow; Lodica Jenny (Elbert) Everett. She is survived by her daughter, Therese and her husband, Troy Passmore.

Myrtle's earthly body will be cremated and taken to Lyons, Nebraska to join her love, Robert.

In light of Covid-19 restrictions there will not be a visitation or local service. If you would, please make a donation to your favorite charity in Myrtle's name.

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award me on that day, and not only to me but to all who have loved his appearing.
