Elizabeth "Betty" Jane Letcher was born to Edwin Letcher and Myrtle (Hovelburg) Letcher on March 19, 1927 in McKenzie County, North Dakota where her father was a farmer. Betty passed away on March 1, 2011 in Madison County, Virginia and is buried in the Riverview Cemetery, Williston, North Dakota beside her son, William who died in 2013. also buried there is her former husband Robert who died in 2000.
