SMSGT David Jefferson Nicholls, US Air Force (Retired), 70, passed away Saturday evening, November 17, 2007, at his residence following long and courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Camden County, he had lived in Nahunta since 1974. Mr. Nicholls was retired from the United States Air Force where he had served during the Vietnam conflict. During his military career, he received the Bronze Star and many other medals of commendation. Following his retirement from the Air Force, Mr. Nichols went to work for the United States Postal Service until his retirement a few years ago. He was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church in Blackshear and was a son of the late Jesse Lee & Lula Tisha Clark Nicholls. Mr. Nicholls was also preceded in death by his two brothers, Vernon Nicholls and J. V. Nicholls.

Survivors are his wife, Norma Dykes Nicholls of Nahunta; two daughters and sons-n-law, Sherri & Rev. Timmy Hall of Ludowici and Heidi & Ernie Thomas of Nahunta; a son, Jeffrey Nicholls of Nahunta; a sister and brother-n-law, Mary Ellen & Tommy Broughton of Waynesville; 7 grandchildren, Samantha (John) May, Wesley Nicholls, Jacob Hall, Kevin Nicholls, Eric Nicholls, Jameson Thomas and Brett Thomas and several nieces, nephews & other relatives.

Funeral services for Mr. Nicholls will be held Wednesday morning, November 21, 2007, at 11:00 o'clock from the Bethel Baptist Church.

Interment will be in the Hortense Cemetery with full military honors.

Visitation for Mr. Nicholls will be held Tuesday evening, November 20, 2007, from 6 until 8 at the funeral home.

All former postal personnel from the Hortense and Blackshear post offices are asked to serve as honorary pallbearers and should meet at the church by 10:30 Wednesday morning.

Memorial donations may be made to Brantley Co. Jr. ROTC, C/O Brantley Co. High School, Route 1 Box 4, Nahunta, GA 31553.
