W. K. Foster, a longtime official in sports officiating, died Saturday at his Morningside Drive residence in Fayetteville. He was 64.
The funeral was Monday afternoon at Higgins Funeral Home in Fayetteville with Dr. Wayne Wiman and Eugene Peden officiating. Burial was in Riverview Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Foster was an employee of the U. S. Postal Service for 38 years, 20 of which he served as a rural mail carrier.
He was a veteran of World War II and served in the Navy.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreigh Wars, the Elks Lodge, and the Fayetteville Golf and County Club. He was a member of the Fayetteville Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Foster was a Lincoln County native. He was the son of the late Walter C. Foster and Bessie Jane Burns Foster.
He was commissioner of the South Central Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association and was a TSSAA official in football, basketball, and baseball.
One of the softball fields at the new municipal complex was named after him, as was an invitation golf torunament at the country club.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Elaine Tenery Foster of Fayetteville; two sons, Wayne K. Foster and Charles T. Foster, both of Nashville; threee daughters, Mrs. Patricia Young and Mrs. Jane Brown of Fayetteville and Mrs. Jean Scott of Nahville; one sister, Mrs. Frances Stewart; and seven grandchildren.
