Jerry Clettis Stevens Jr., 75, of Council, Va., departed this life on Saturday, July 24, 2021, in a Bristol, Tenn. hospital surrounded by his family. Jerry was born on April 21, 1946, making his stay on this earth 75 years 3 months and 3 days.
Jerry was the son of the late Robert and Rachel Johnson Stevens. He was formerly employed by Clinchfield Coal Company's Lambert Fork Mine and later as a coal truck driver. He was owner and operator of Jerry's Roofing Company.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Jerome Clettis Stevens; a daughter, Tamera Jerietta Stevens Bennet and three brothers and four sisters.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary Lou (Bostic) Stevens, his father-in-law, Claude Bostic of Honaker, Va.; and three wonderful grandsons, Quentin Harris of Tazewell, Va., Treavor Harris and Jordan Stevens, both of Council; two brothers, Clarence Stevens of Council and Leeroy Stevens of Lebanon, Va.; three sisters, Ruth Howard of Grundy, Va., Dollie Stone of Chester, Va., and Julie Johnson of Council; sister-in-law, Clara Stevens of Belfast, Va. and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Quentin Harris, Treavor Harris, Jordan Stevens, Mark Stevens, Russell Bostic, Ray Bostic, and Lester Ball.
Dr. Norman Rexrode will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, July 29, 2021, at 11:30 a.m. in the Owens Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Roy Lee Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in the Johnson Cemetery in Council.
