Mr. Carl Stevens, age 79, of Belfast, Virginia, passed away Wednesday (October 16, 2013) in a Richlands, Virginia hospital. Born October 15, 1934 in Buchanan County, Virginia, he was a son of the late Robert Lee and Rachel Johnson Stevens. A lifelong resident of Buchanan County, before moving to the Belfast area about six years ago, he was a member of the Bible Way Church in Honaker, Virginia. He had formerly owned and operated Stevens Roofing and had been employed as a coal miner. He loved to farm, hunt, and work in his garden, but above all, he loved God and his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Clovis Stevens and Paul Stevens, and three sisters, Roxie Harris, Gracie Cook, and Dorothy Stevens.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-two years, Frances Clara Stevens of the home; three sons, Eddie Stevens and wife, Tiny of Belfast, Keith Stevens and wife, Melanie of Council, and Tim Stevens and wife, Vickie of Pounding Mill; five grandchildren, Chad Stevens and wife, Megan, Josh Stevens, Hunter Stevens, Tonya Rasnake and husband, Ryan, and Haley Stevens; two great-grandchildren, Rylee Rasnake and Jake Rasnake; four sisters, Dollie Stone and husband, Malcolm of Chester, Virginia, Rassie Honaker of Hopewell, Julia Johnson of Council, and Ruth Howard of Grundy; three brothers, Lee Roy Stevens and wife, Tammy of Lebanon, Leemore Stevens and wife, Faye and Jerry Stevens and wife, Mary Lou all of Council; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Friday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Darrell Milgrim and Rev. Palmer Leftwich officiating. Interment will follow in Ketron Memorial Gardens at Lebanon, Virginia.
Pallbearers will be Mark Stevens, Herbert Johnson, Cecil Miller, Ryan Rasnake, Dannie Bostic, and Harold Cook.
Honorary pallbearers will be Grandsons and the Men of Bible Way Church.
Friends may call at the Honaker Funeral Home after 6:00 PM Thursday.
