Harold L. (Smitty) Smith, 100 formerly of Virden passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving grandchildren on Saturday, July 24, 2021 at his granddaughter's home in Weldon Spring, MO. He was born April 23, 1921 in Waverly, son of Lincoln W. and Martha R. (Cook) Smith. He married Evelyn Gall on January 19, 1947 in Virden and she preceded him in death on February 22, 2018.
A World War II Veteran, Harold had proudly served his Country as a Field Artillery Specialist in the United States Army. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, enjoyed carpentry and gardening, but his true love and passion was his family and spending time with them.
He is survived by his grandchildren Aaron (Mercedes) Smith of Springfield, IL, Aimee (Ben) Grunst of Weldon Spring, MO, Alyson (Patrick) Kelly of Johnson, MO and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son Richard L. Smith, sisters, Shirley Palmer, Florence Brown and Leona Yoakum.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday July 30, 2021 at Airsman & Calvert Funeral Home with his grandson Aaron Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Virden Cemetery with Military Honors accorded by the Virden American Legion Post #386. Visitation will be Friday July 30, 2021 from 1:00 PM until the time of services.
Memorials in his honor may be made to the Choice of the Donor and will be received by Airsman & Calvert Funeral Home, Virden who is honored to be caring for Harold's family.
