Luke Quinn was slain while defending the United States Arsenel at Harpers Ferry, Virginia (now West Virginia). John Brown and a small band of raiders had attacked the arsenel in hopes of securing arms to free slaves in the south. Quinn was a member of the United States Marine Corps at the time of his death. John Brown and his followers were convicted of killing Quinn and several others and hung at Harpers Ferry.
