Here he attended grade school. At the age of 10 he moved with his family to a farm near Ashton, where he
completed his education.
At the age of 21 he moved with his family to Iowa. On November 19,1913 he was united in marriage to Mabel Naab at Ocheyeedan, Iowa. They farmed in the Ocheyedan area for 6 years, then moved to a farm near Clear Lake, South Dakota for 14 years and to the Lake Wilson, Minnesota area where they farmed until 1944 when they moved to Pipestone where he spent the remainder of his life.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Pipestone.
Besides his many friends, he is lovingly remembered by his wife; three sons, Orville of Minneapolis, Minnesota,
Darwin of Fountain Valley, California, and Wyman of Walnut Grove, Minnesota; one daughter, Mrs. Howard (Arleah)
Brecher of Pipestone, Minnesota; 12 granddchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; also, one brother, William of
Galesburg, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
