0. L Sawyer, 74, Retired Minister, Dies; Rites Today
O. I. Sawyer, 74, retired minister of the Church of Christ, died Monday at his residence, 1012 Sells Ave., S. W., after an illness of several months.
Funeral services will be conducted at 4:30 p. m. today at Spring Hill, with Franklin T. Puckett and W. L. Sheldon officiating. Burial will be in West View Cemetery.
Well know in Atlanta, Mr. Sawyer had served as minister of the Center Hill Church of Christ and the Hemphill Church of Christ for many years. He was forced by ill health to retire from active work in the church in 1942.
A native of Covington, he came to Atlanta in 1901, to enter the grocery business. In 1917 he left that business to enter the ministry, a profession he followed for more than 25 years.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Teasley Huddleston and Mrs. Clarence L. Leathers; a son H. K. Sawyer; seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
