His wife was Mary (maiden name unknown) and they had three known children: Samuel, Robert and Mary.
Son Samuel was born in 1756 or 1757, lived in Shippensburg before settling in Columbiana County, Ohio.
Son Robert married and was said to have died a few years after his father. Robert died sometime after April 1810 when he and his brother-in-law James Beattie sold a house and lot owned by his deceased father in Shippensburg, PA. Robert died prior to 1816 when his widow remarried.
John's only known daughter Mary (1865-1823) married James Beattie and lived in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania.
John served in the Revolutionary War though his son Samuel substituted for him in later years according to Samuel Quigley's Revolutionary War pension records. On 31 July 1777, the First Call for Captain Thomas Askey's First Marching Company, First Battalion, included both John Quigley and his son Samuel listed as Privates. John was as a Private 1st Class with son Samuel in Captain Alexander Peebles' Company, First Battalion, Cumberland County Militia, commanded by Colonel James Dunlap, on 20 Feb 1779.
Though a newspaper account of the Quigleys published in 1898 stated that John Quigley died prior to March 22, 1808, it was a misprint because his probate record is dated March 22, 1803.
