First born child of Amzi Benson White and his wife Mary Rebecca Thomas. When Elmer was 3 years of age, his parents returned to New Castle, Lawrence Co., PA from Wapello, Iowa. New Castle remained his home until he graduated from medical school in 1883, at which time he settled in Uniontown, Pennsylvania. About 8 years later, he relocated his practice to Chicago, Illinois, where he continued the practice of medicine until the time of his death. He served as a professor and trustee of Herring Medical College, Chicago, for a number of years. Dr. White was a member of the Hyde Park Methodist church, where he served on the Board of Trustees and the Board of Ushers.

Elmer married Jewell Hester Tidball 5 September 1883, and together, they were the parents of one son, Alonzo Bowie White. Alonzo was born 20 July 1887 in Connellsville, Fayette county, Pennsylvania and the parents divorced after April 29th 1893 at Cook Co. IL.
Elmer married next Blanche Ramalia (c1867-1938) September 3rd, 1893 at Milwaukee Co., Wisconsin but they had separated by the 1900 US Census.
Elmer married Grace (Palmer) Jones June 2nd, 1908 at Tippecanoe Co., Indiana.

Elmer was survived by his widow, Grace; son Alonzo Bowie (and Mary Vaughan) and grand- children Elmer T., Mary V., and Richard V. White of South Milwaukee; his sister, Mary Alice White, and brother, Rev. Norris A. White D.D., both of New Castle.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Mrs. Almon Rainey (Lora) Shaffer.
