Korea∼Merle A. Currie, 87, of Gainesville, passed on February 6, 2021. Merle was born on September 15, 1933 in Muskegon, MI to Russell and Mary Currie. He was the youngest of 5 siblings who called him Sonny.
After graduation, Merle enlisted in the US Navy on November 16, 1955. On September 28, 1956 he was honorably discharged in Corpus Christi, TX. He became a letter carrier for the USPS. Working hard, he was promoted in 1979 to Postmaster of the Gainesville Texas Post Office and retired on September 1, 1990.
Mr. Currie was a compassionate person and enjoyed volunteering. He has been a member of the Lions Club since 1957. He also volunteered at Salvation Army and Red Cross. He was heavily involved in the Republican Party as a representative of Cooke Co.
Merle was preceded in death by his loving wife Sandra; sons Alan and Lonnie; sister Maxine; brothers Lyle and Bud. Mr. Currie is survived by his daughters, stepsons, sister.. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren & 14 great grandchildren other relatives and many friends..
