Daughter of Asa Brown and Mary Catherine Benson. Mary's name appears as "Lisa" in Gertrude's obituary. Gertrude's middle name is also spelled "Katherine" rather than "Catherine." She had been married three times, but was a widow at her death.

GERTRUDE KATHERINE SMITH, 78, who moved to Sidney in October 1980, died Thursday in Crestwood Inn. Born in Haines. Ore., a daughter of Asa and Lisa Brown, she attended schools there. In 1923 she married Paul B. Palmer in Portland, Ore. In 1948 she moved to Seattle, Wash., and married Anton Odegard in 1951. Later she married Henry Smith in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; he preceded her in death. Survivors include a son, Stuart Palmer of Lynnwood, Wash.; two daughters. Kreta Loomis of Casper, Wyo., and Mrs. Jerry (Rebekah) Hartland of Enid; two sisters, Henrietta and Margie, both of Portland, Ore.; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be on the West Coast. Fulkerson Funeral Home is in charge.
