Woman Found In River
Donora police, aided by Allegheny and Washington County authorities, today launched an intensive investigation into the death of a 58 year old Donora woman whose body was recovered from the Monongahela River near East Monongahela last Tuesday.
There was evidence of foul play. Donora police Chief William Lelik said the Allegheny County coroner's office reported the victim, Mrs. George (Sophia) Dukery of 550 McKean Ave., Donora, was dead when her body entered the water.
Dr. Theodore R. Hembold, Allegheny County pathologist, said the cause of death was a crushed chest. Coroner's deputies theorized the body had been carried downstream into Forward Twp. from somewhere in Washington County.

Mrs. Dukery's body was recovered near a sharp bend in the Monongahela river near the Monagh Coal Co tipple last Tuesday. A river boat captain spotted the remains in the river and notified police.
The body was removed to the Allegheny County Morgue. Following various leads, the victim was finally by her husband, George Durkey, on Saturday. Donora police were informed by Allegheny County officials late Saturday night.
Letik said he was "surprised" to learn the victim was Mrs. Durkey, a life long resident of Donora.
The police chief said no one had reported Mrs. Durkey missing even though her husband told Allegheny County authorities she was last seen Jan. 22 when she went to visit a friend.
