Mr. Grover H. Bass, 87, went to be with his savior and lord June 26, 2021 at Wadley Regional Medical Center Texarkana, Tx. Born February 2, 1934, to parents Charlie B. Bass and Pansy Bass of McGehee, Arkansas. He was one of nine children. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Charlie D. Bass of Alaska and Louie B. Bass of Rison, Ar.; two sisters Stella Bilbright of Pennsylvania and Imolene Pardon of Rison, Ar. Grover was the captain of the McGehee High School football team starting his junior year. At age 12, he began boxing where he was Southeast Conference Champion and Golden Gloves Champion. He enlisted in the military, joining the US Airforce in 1952 where he continued his boxing career and won the Airforce middleweight championship of Japan. After returning home, he began working for Western Electric then took a position at Southwestern Bell. He moved his family to Hope, Ar. in 1976 where he continued to work for Southwestern Bell / AT&T for 30 years until his retirement at age 50 while also maintaining a chicken farm producing broiler chickens for Hudson Farms. He was a deacon at Southside Missionary Baptist Church in McGehee and was a member of Telephone Pioneers. He had a true love for his family, enjoyed coaching his son in baseball and loved riding his four-wheeler checking his cows.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Cora Elizabeth Bass, four children; 3 daughters Becky McDermott, husband Gary McDermott of Hope; Ramona Kyles and husband Steve of Texarkana; Jane Collums, husband Jeff of Hope; and one son, Grover Ray Bass, wife Christene of Thornton, Co. five grandchildren; Deanna Ballard, Brandi Ballard, Meghan Quinn, Emily Salisbury, and Jake Collums; seven great grandchildren, and three great -great- grandchildren; two brothers, Jerry Bass and Eddie Bass; two sisters, Dora May Padgett and Anita Chandler.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Hope For Paws Co/ Carol Robinson 2858 Hwy. 174 South Hope, Arkansas.

A celebration of life graveside service will be Monday June 28, 2021, 2:00pm at Westmoreland Cemetery, Hempstead 308 Cross Roads Community, with Bro. Buddy Ritter officiating. Burial will follow. Funeral services are under the direction of BRAZZEL/Oakcrest The Funeral Hope, Eddie Brazzel Director.
