Buford Carr, 82, died Saturday, October 11, 1997 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital emergency room. Born December 28, 1914 in Mercer County he was the son of the late Sam and Era Coovert Carr. He was a retired engineer for the Norfolk-Southern Railroad after 36 years, a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church, a 46-year member of the United Transportation Union and a past president of the local Danville chapter of the United Transportation Union. Survivors include: his wife, Stella Russell Carr; three sons, Stuart Carr and Shane Carr, both of Harrodsburg and Steve Carr of Danville; four daughters, Barbara Foley, Kathy McBee and Betty Smothers, all of Danville and Penny Johnson of Lexington; one brother, Mayor Charles W. Carr of Harrodsburg; 11 grandchildren. One sister, Elsie Farnau preceded him in death. Services were held Tuesday, October 14, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Dr. Robert DeFoor officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
