Son of Johann & Magdelena (Ammeter) Steuri.
In November of 1910 at the age of 5, he came to America with his adoptive parents, Anna and Christian Abegglen, who was his mother's sister. They settled in the Oconee, Nebraska area where Gottlieb attended District 25 grade school. He road the train to Monroe and graduated from Monroe High School. He continued his education in California and worked on a dairy and fruit farm. He moved back to Platte County, Nebraska to farm and later returned to the family farm near Oconee. On February 23, 1936 he married Helen Maria Mueller in Columbus, Nebraska. In 1975 they moved to Columbus. Gottlieb was Chairman of District 25 School Board for 12 years and worked for the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service from 1930 to 1980. He was a member of St. Luke's United Church of Christ where he was a past president. He was on the Oconee Township Election Board and was a 4-H Club leader for many years and in 1990 received recognition from the Platte County Fair for his families involvement with the 4-H Club for 3 generations. In 1951 Gottlieb and Helen received the WOW-TV Farm Family of the Year Award. Gottlieb enjoyed woodworking, whittling, traveling, reading, music, and supporting school activities.
