Elizabeth Ilene Young, 96, Antis Township passed peacefully Saturday morning, June 12, 2021 at UPMC Altoona. She was born May 10, 1925 in Bellwood, daughter of the late Walter and Elvira (Pletcher) Kennedy. She was the youngest of five siblings; Grace, Edna, Eva, Lavina and Jay, all of whom preceded her in death. On May 11, 1950, she married James Young at Third Presbyterian Church, Altoona and he preceded her in death on March 13, 2009.
Ilene graduated from Bellwood Antis High School in 1943. She went to work for the Pennsylvania Railroad, where she met her husband, Jim. After marrying, they moved to rural Antis Township, where she was a devoted wife and beloved mother of five. Through the years, while raising her children, Ilene was known as a hardworking woman. She farmed their land all while working behind the scenes with husband, Jim, throughout his many business ventures, including Young Cabinet Shop, JAYO All Terrain Vehicles, Jimbo's Retreat Drive-in and Alaskaland Restaurants.
She loved spending time outdoors in her gardens and doing yardwork. Ilene loved baseball, and in recent years enjoyed watching the Pittsburgh Pirates. She also enjoyed time with her many close friends and her family, who loved her for her great sense of humor, down to earth wit and genuine nature.
Surviving are her children, Walt W. of Altoona, Sharon Yvonne Young (Michael Cassels) of St. Petersburg, Fla., Dwayne A. (Wendy) of Antis Township and Dennis J., of whom she resided;a daughter in law, Debbie; four grandchildren, LaToya, Halee, Kristi and Joshua; 4 great grandchildren, Aaliyah, Lakelynn, Kenzi and Jayce; and numerous nieces and nephews, many of which loved her like her own children.
She was preceded in death by a son, Ronald J. on Oct. 20, 2000.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8pm, Thursday, June 17, 2021 and 10 to 11am, Friday, June 18, 2021 at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Inc. Bellwood. A funeral service will be held at 11am Friday at the funeral home. Interment will be at Roseland Cemetery, Reade Township.
