He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlene Bell, in February, 1971. Father of Dennis Bell of the United States Army presently stationed in Oakland, and Mrs. Linda Richards of Eureka. Son-in-law of Mrs. Pearl Holst of Eureka. Brother of James Bell of Freshwater; George Bell of West Virginia; Billie Swadley of Harrisburg, Virginia; Mrs. Clara Phillips of Harrisburg; and Mrs. Dorothy Lenamon of Waco, Texas. Grandfather of Jeffrey Richard of Eureka. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
A native of Virginia, he came to California 33 years ago, and had resided the past 26 years in Eureka. He had been a painting contractor in Eureka for many years. A veteran of World War II, he served in the United States Army 101st Airborne Division during the attack on Pearl Harbor. He was a member of the BPOE No. 652 of Eureka. Age 51.
Friends are invited to attend services at the Chapel of the Ferns Cooper Mortuary, Friday, June 4, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Richard O. McKinsey of the Fortuna United First Methodist Church officiating. Pallbearers will be Dennis Bell, Jim Alexander, L. C. Hall, Ned West, Robert Hinman and Leonard Hicks. Concluding services will be at Ocean View Cemetery, Eureka. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
