Abram Ewers was born in Bellaire, Belmont County, Ohio, September 4, 1838, and died at his home four miles west of Chetopa Sunday night, December 30, 1917, about 12 o'clock, age 79 years, 3 months and 26 days. He was a volunteer member of Co. F, 15th Regiment of Ohio Infantry, during the Civil War. After the close of the war he came to Kansas and homesteaded four miles west of Chetopa, where he has since resided. He was married to Miss Martha E. Lent, March 9th, 1868, and to this union were born eight children, six of whom survive him - Mrs. Mattie Reed, St. Louis, MO; Edward Ewers, Los Angeles; CA, Mrs. Mellie George, St. Louis, MO; Mrs. Maggie Archer, Ellinwood, KS; Mrs. Eva Anderson, Ellenwood, KS; and Fred Abram Ewers, Chetopa, KS. Mr. Ewers had been sick about two weeks, the cause o his death being uremic poisoning. The Funeral services were held at two o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the ild home west of town, conducted by Rev. B. M. Shacklette of the Baptist Church. Remains were laid to Rest in Oak Hill Cemetery.
