Alice was baptized at St. Philip's Episcopal Church, where she remained a member her entire life. At St. Philips, she served as a member of the following committees and ministries: Chapel, Feed My Sheep, Episcopal Church Women "ECW", and Co-Chair of Annual Homecoming. Early on, she taught Sunday school, and she supported all the church activities, including the Peter Gross Scholarship, the gospel singing programs, bus trips, bull roasts, and homecoming Sunday.
She was educated in the Prince George's County Public Schools, and graduated from Frederick Douglass High School in June of 1945. She was a star player on Douglass's basketball and track teams. After her children were older, Alice began working outside the home. She first worked as a short order cook at Howard's Restaurant, in Waldorf, MD. In the 1970s, she and her husband started a family-owned and operated business, the "Seafood Market and Delicatessen", in Southeast Washington, D.C. After they sold the business in the 1980's, she sought employment at Edgemeade school for at-risk youth, where she remained until her retirement in 1993. Alice served her community through her work within the church and her participation in the Loyal Ladies Temple #712 Improved Benevolent and Protective Order of ELKS of World.
Alice was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Joseph McKinley Greenfield; two sons, Wayne McKinley and Gregory Mark Greenfield; five sisters, Alberta Christian, Sarah Brooks, Rebecca Carter, Matilda Gross, Berdina Magruder; and one brother, Robert Lee Brooks.
