Lucille Tubb was born December 23, 1928 in Perry County, AL to the late Judge C. and Alice M. Tubb. She was the second child born to this union. Three siblings preceded her in death, Judge C. Tubb, Jr, Lovella T. Purifoy, and Grady A. Tubbs.
Lucille answered her Masters call on Sunday, May 23, 2021 at her home in Montgomery, AL.Lucille confessed her belief in Christ at an early age and joined the Union Baptist Church in Marion, AL.
As time and circumstances changed, she united with Beulah Baptist Church in Montgomery, AL where she served until her transition.
Lucille received her early education at Cross Road Elementary school in Marion, AL graduating in 1941 and her High School Diploma from Selma University in Selma, AL in 1947. Knowing the importance of education, she continued to study, and in 1951 received her Bachelor of Science Degree from Alabama State (College for Negroes) University and in 1971 she received a Master of Arts Degree from Tuskegee (Institute) University in Special Education now known as Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act of 2004.
In 1951, Lucille began her teaching career with the Perry County Board of Education working diligently until moving to Tuskegee, AL in 1961. After a brief period as a Business Administration Clerk at Tuskegee (Institute) University, she returned to her chosen career as a classroom teacher with the Macon County Board of Education, advancing to the position of supervisor in 1977, she spent thirty-six years as an educator before retiring in 1993.
When not advocating for the children, Lucille served as a member of the Council for Exceptional Children, the Macon County Democratic Club as Secretary from 1976-1980, serving with the Order of Eastern Star Jewel Chapter #596 (1976-1980) as Worthy Matron; OES Matron's Council, Worthy Matron (2002-2006).
Her volunteer service included Meals on Wheels-Beulah Baptist Church from 2000-2002, the Educational Mission to Quito, Ecuador, South America in 2002; and South Lawn Elementary School in 2003.
She ushered at the churches where she worshiped including her membership at Greenwood Missionary Baptist and ShadyBaptist Churches in Tuskegee, AL.
During her spare time Lucille enjoyed gardening, reading, sewing, writing, and traveling. Her travels carried her throughout the United States including Hawaii, and abroad to Ecuador, South America, and Israel.
Lucille leaves to cherish her memories daughters: Myrtle Turnbull and Aldinea (Sherman) Dillard. Grandsons: Marcus (Ceclia) Turnbull, Jason (Aviance) Turnbull, Benjamin Dillard and Langston Dillard. Great-grandchildren: Marquis Davis, Marcayla Turnbull, Jasmine Echols, Jaylon Quinn, Angel Dixon, Aman Dixon and Breanna Jones. Great-great grandchildren: McKenzie Harris and CaMia Carney. Brothers: Collie (Doris) Tubbs, Elmer (Karen) Tubbs and sister, Claudine T. Lee. Special caregivers: Doris Thomas, DeShawndra Berry, JaQuita Williams and Beverly Blount as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other family, and friends.
