Born on September 11, 1932, Jouette spent much of her childhood in Shillington, Pennsylvania, graduating from Shillington High School in 1950, and Reading Memorial Hospital Nursing School in 1953. She married Ed in 1954, and became a devoted military wife, as well as mother to Steven E. Chick (Mary Lynn Chick), Craig A. Chick, and Susan Chick Hoover (Kevin K. Hoover). She adored her four grandchildren, Justin E. Chick, Andrew B. Chick, Kenley C. Hoover, and Tyler E. Hoover, often regaling her friends with stories about them.
Upon ending her work as an RN for both Prince William Hospital and, later, as a Medication Clinic Nurse for the Fairfax – Falls Church Community Services Board, Jouette became an avid volunteer, working as a classroom aide at Jennie Dean Elementary School, Manassas, Virginia; a helper with the Manassas Public Library system; an Arlington Lady, Arlington National Cemetery; and as a docent and Board member for the Manassas Museum Associates. She and Ed would often dress in period costumes as the original owners of Liberia Plantation - Harriett and William James Weir – on behalf of the Museum. Their photo adorned the cover of the brochure for the Manassas Museum Associates as part of the 150 year Civil War recognition.
Those who knew Jouette remember well her lovely smile, creativity, sense of humor, and her vibrant personality. She loved people, and could always remember names and details about their lives. She is already greatly missed.
A private interment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Donations in Jouette's memory may be made to: Doctors Without Borders; or to the Wounded Warrior Project.
