Alma Louise Stowers, 92 of Bluefield, VA, passed away Friday, May 21, 2021 in LaPlata, MD. Born in Rocky Gap, VA, she was the daughter of the late Trubie and Irene Crabtree Gregory. She graduated from Rocky Gap High School in 1946. Alma worked for the Mercer County Board of Education for 35 years as a cook. She served children lunch at Fairview, Memorial and Brushfork Schools. She also worked at Woolworth's, Kroger, St. Luke's Hospital and Camp Iva. She was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church. She attended First Baptist Church of Waldorf, MD for the past 7 years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Thomas Stowers; sisters: Shirley Sutphin and Emma Jean King; brothers: Trubie Jr and Don Gregory.
Left to cherish her memory are her son: Stephen Stowers and wife, Diane of LaPlata, MD; daughter: Martha Cregger and husband, Sam "Junior" of Bluefield, VA; grandchildren: LeAnn Bowler and husband, David of Hughesville, MD, Stephen Stowers II and wife, Stephanie of LaPlata, MD, Pamela Cregger of Woodlawn, VA; great-grandchildren: Jackson, Emma and Luke Bowler, Russell Watson, Aidan Price and Stephen Stowers III; brothers: Oren Gregory and wife, Janet, Bill Gregory and Jim Gregory all of Elyria, OH.
A service to celebrate Alma's life will be held Friday, May 28, 2021 at 1:00 P.M. at Dudley Memorial Chapel with Pastor Larry Sutphin and Rev Ancil Overbey III officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens with family serving as pallbearers.
