Donald J Gregory, 81, passed away Monday morning, February 8, 2021 at his home.

Born and raised in Rocky Gap, Virginia, he was the son of the late Trubie and Irene (nee Crabtree) Gregory. He graduated from Rocky Gap High School in 1957. Shortly after graduation, he moved to Elyria where he resided.

He was married to Rita (nee Kader) for 57 wonderful years before her passing in 2019. Prior to starting his own business, Don began his career in construction, along with three of his brothers, as heavy equipment operators. For over 50 years, with his wife Rita, he owned and operated Donald Gregory Trucking. Following in his footsteps were his four children who all worked together daily creating a family business in which to be proud. Don was a member of the Community of Faith United Church of Christ, and an active, lifelong member of the former Lake Avenue United Church of Christ.

The legacy a man leaves his family says a great deal about his character. Each of his children and grandchildren know the significance of hard work, and appreciate the importance of tradition to preserve family values and integrity.

Those left to cherish his memory include his sons, Donald (Kelley) Gregory, Jr. and John (Jenny) Gregory; his daughter, Karen (Dave) Ennes; grandchildren, Donald III, Nicholle, Cole, Hannah, Matthew (Nicole), Kyle Gregory, Parker and Allison Ennes; great-granddaughter, Clara Ann Gregory; great-grandson due in March, sister, Alma Stowers; brothers, Billy, Oren, and Jimmie Gregory and a host of loving nieces and nephews.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Rita; son, Kevin Gregory; infant son, Robert Gregory; sisters, Shirley Sutphin, Emma Jean King; and brother Trubie, Jr.

Friends may call 11am – 1pm, Saturday, February 13, 2021 at Busch Funeral Home, 114 Second Street, Elyria. A funeral service will follow the visitation at 1 pm in the funeral home. Reverend Kathy Ketchum and Chaplain Clayton Gregory will officiate. Interment will follow at the New Russia Township Cemetery. Facial coverings required by all guests.

The family would like to thank the staff at The Hospice of Western Reserve for their support, guidance, and gentle care. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the First Congregational Church Food Pantry, 330 Second Street, Elyria, Ohio 44035.
