Leonard Agee was born the fourth child of Otto W. Agee (1868-1904) and Tirzah Olive Stephens (1873-1967). Even before Leonard's first birthday, his father passed away in Lane Co., Oregon. His mother eventually married Francis Horton. Leonard spent much of his early life Douglas Co., Oregon.

On the 24 February 1927, Leonard married Hazel Blanche Boivine (1910-1978), the daughter of William and Ethel Boivine. Leonard and Hazel had two children together: James and Ralph.

Leonard's wife, Hazel, preceded him in death on the 2 April 1978 in Portland, Multnomah Co., Oregon. Leonard died six years later in Portland. He was buried in Lincoln Memorial Park.
