daughter of Heinrich Duczek & Anna Dietrich who immigrated from Rosch, Bukowina, Austria in March 1903 to a homestead near Grayson, North-West Territories (now Saskatchewan), Canada. Mary was born on the homestead near Grayson. Their surname, Duczek was anglicized to Dutchek

Excerpts from History Book: Memorable Years, Goodsoil & District, 1928-1982: Mr. and Mrs. John Bruch, by Mrs. John Bruch: We came to Goodsoil from Chicago in the year 1928. That summer we filed a homestead in the area called Flat Valley. We did stay in St. Walburg until 1930, when the Beaver River Bridge was built.
Our brushing was done by axe. A few acres were cleared for a garden, etc. Then as time permitted we would brush a bit more. There was a store not too far from us, owned by George Seeley.
A few years later John went out to Paynton for harvest. He earned enough to buy two horses. Mr. Stangel brought the horses to Flat Valley for us.
By the time the Second World War broke out, things had gotten a bit better. Farming was modernized by buying a tractor and better machinery.
We had six children - three girls and three boys. Of these only one son and two daughters are living. Raymond is married, lives in Flat Valley. One daughter lives in Ardmore, and the other is in Victoria, B.C.
We sold our property to Raymond in 1957. John has since passed away. I live with my son on the farm.
