Avanell "Abby" Janette (Clouser) Pifer, 92, of Big Run/Henderson Township, went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 7, 2021, in her son Max Jr.'s home after a long battle with lung cancer.

She was born on Nov. 23, 1928, in DuBois, a daughter of the late Floyd Jackson Clouser and Julia Oledia (Hollopeter) Clouser. She was a graduate of the DuBois High School Class of 1946.

On Sept. 20, 1946, Abby married Max E. Pifer Sr.; together, they enjoyed 66 years of marriage.

She was a member of the Paradise Community United Church of Christ. She was also a 60-year member and Past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star. She worked at Cameron Mfg. Co., Rola Jensen and as a nurse's aide at DuBois Hospital.

Abby loved her farm animals and pets. She enjoyed the simple things in life. She loved to garden and can and share its harvest. One of her greatest joys was to cook for her husband and "my three sons." She enjoyed quilting and sharing her many talents.

Abby was the matriarch and last surviving member of her generation of the Pifer and Clouser families. She was beloved and will be missed by all the many nieces and nephews, especially her niece, Connie Daugherty, who called her daily to talk and ask her advice.

She is survived by two sons, Max E. (Debbie) Pifer, Jr., Henderson Township, and Carl D. Pifer, Big Run. Son Bernard D. Pifer preceded her in death.

She is survived by five grandchildren, Ryan Pifer, Queens borough of New York City; Dustin Pifer, King George, Virginia; and Sunni Jean (Heath) Reddinger, Destiny Pifer, and Adam Pifer, all of Punxsutawney.

She treasured her time spent with her three great-grandchildren, Gavin Pifer, Easton Reddinger and Dartanyan Pifer.
