Beatrice Dempsey

Beatrice Dempsey was born 10/4/1926 to the late Cora and John Henry Thompson Sr. in Houston county Georgia, where she grew up and received her education alongside her brothers and sisters.
She later met and married the late Rufus Dempsey Sr in 1946. They welcomed their first child daughter, Claudia Amos (deceased) in 1947 followed by Joan, Rufus Jr, Glorious, and adopted daughter Theresa McCloud. In 1956, she moved to New York City where she worked several jobs up until she retired from Speedmark in 1989. After retirement, she moved to West Palm Beach, Florida with her younger children up until her death.

Beatrice loved serving the Lord and joined St. John's Missionary Baptist Church under the late Rev. Dr. F. Arthur Reed and later under Rev.Dr. Wayne Stokeling New Journey Church of Brooklyn. She joined the church in the late 1960's. She served many years on the Usher Board, and Women's day committee. She was also a member of the Eastern Stars Queen of Sheba Chapter #2.

After retiring to Florida she joined Roanoke Missionary Baptist Church in 1998 under the late Rev. L. J. Alfred. Later served under Rev. Maurice Johnson where they affectionately called her Mother Dempsey.

On Monday May 21, 2018 she transitioned into Heaven at Good Samaritan Hospital West Palm Beach, Florida.

She is survived by three children Joan (Walter) Whitaker of Brooklyn, NY, Rufus Dempsey Jr, and Glorious Dempsey both of West Palm Beach, Florida. One sister Gladys Floyd of Detroit, Michigan, and one brother Eli Thompson of Orlando, Florida, three sister-in law Mattie of Orlando, Florida, Marylou of Smithville, Georgia, and Daisy of New York. Six grandchildren Fanita Amos, Sonija Bennett, Frances Amos. Beatrice Whitaker, Marcus Dempsey and Travis Dempsey.Seven great grandchildren Robert, Jeanene, Shaieysha, David Jr, Jada, Aayilah and Delores. Four great great grandchildren Nailah, Quincy, T'yla, and Jahnae, all of New York City. One special nephew, Leonard Thompson of California and hosts of cousins, nieces nephews, and friends.
