CALDWELL PARISH YOUTH IS DROWNED
COLUMBIA, La., July 26 -- (Special) Funeral services were held today for 16 year old Jesse Lafferty, who drowned in a swimming accident Tuesday morning near Price's Landing on the Ouachita River 15 miles south of here. The funeral was conducted at the Free Methodist Church at Holum, Louisiana, five miles east of Grayson. The Rev. Loyd Keller officiated at the services and interment in the Welcome Home Cemetery.

It was first reported that the youth was the son of Columbia's mayor. Later reports, however, disclosed that he is the son of Mr. & Mrs. Horace Lafferty, of Holum.

Young Lafferty is survived by his parents:
Horace Franklin and Eula Mae Watson Lafferty of Holum
Ten sisters:
Mrs. Eva Mae Lafferty Robinson of Monroe
Mrs. Louise Lafferty Green of Monroe
Abbie Lee Lafferty, Mary Lafferty, Gay Nell Lafferty, Sadie Lafferty,
Thelma Lafferty, Ledie Lafferty, Annette Lafferty and Janette Lafferty
all of Holum
Two brothers:
Frank and Horace Lee Lafferty of Holum

Sheriff Erskine, of Caldwell Parish, said young Lafferty and a 12 year old companion were swimming in the river when the youth drowned at about 11 am. His body was recovered about 6 pm. Assisting in the recover of young Lafferty's body were Captain Fisher and B. R. Breland of the Monroe Fire Department.
