Ellsworth H. Schuette, age 85, formerly of Howards Grove and currently a resident at Rocky Knoll, died Monday July 30, 2007 at St. Nicholas Hospital. He was born on October 9, 1921 in the Town of Centerville, Manitowoc County, a son of the late Edwin and Alma (Anger) Schuette. Ellsworth attended Centerville School, Central High School in Sheboygan and Lakeshore Technical College in Cleveland.
Ellsworth began his work career at Kohler, later he began his trade as a Mason, serving his apprenticeship under August Schmidt, later working with Harry A. Hummitzsch Masonry. He married the former Hazel "Peggy" Bancroft on August 31, 1946 in Chilton.
Ellsworth served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II from 1942 until his honorable discharge in 1945. He then served in the Marine Reserves until his recall during the Korean Conflict, serving his country from 1951 until his honorable discharge in 1952. Ellsworth was a true American Patriot, and was proud of the service awards he received from his country.
After returning from the service, Ellsworth continued working in the Masonry trade under various contractors, starting Schuette Masonry in 1953, retiring in 1988. After retirement, he worked in the maintenance department of Donohue & Associates for seven years. Ellsworth was the Constable for the Town of Mosel over 20 years, and was also on the Howards Grove School District Board for several years. He was a member of St. Mark's United Church of Christ. Ellsworth was a member of the Cleveland and Howards Grove V.F.W., was a past State Commander for the V.F.W. and a member of the Franklin American Legion post #386.
Ellsworth is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Peggy; three sons, Richard E. (Fiancé Jean Effa), James (Bonnie), Thomas (Carol) all of Howards Grove; three daughters, Mary (Timmie) Wagner of Howards Grove, Karen (Keith) Kaestner of Burnsville, MN and Kathy (Fiancé Michael Schwaller) Schuette of Elkhart Lake; ten grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Violet Schuette of Grafton and Violetta Schuette of Sheboygan. In addition to his parents, Ellsworth was preceded in death by a grandson, Eric Wagner: two brothers, Kenneth and Adrian Schuette; and three sisters, Helen Lindow, Elaine Bender and Eunice Leahy.
