George Herrington, age 88, of Rison went home to be with his Lord on Monday, May 3, 2021.

He was born May 24, 1932 in Rison to the late Bernice "Hoody" Herrington and Ola Mae Puckett Herrington.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Lee, Tom, Bill and Fred Herrington and one sister Berniece Reed.

He married the love of his life Myrtle Mae Puckett Herrington on July 22, 1954 in Star City at the home of Rev. and Mrs. Veo Glover.

Mr. Herrington enlisted in the United States Navy in 1953, where he served for 4 years. He received an Honorable Discharge, then came home and worked for Central Maloney. He was also a farmer, raising tomatoes, large gardens and cattle. He later worked several years in the woods and then went to work for James L. Moore doing carpentry work. He continued carpentry work until he retired in 1997. He loved to fish, hunt and play with his grandchildren.

He served as Church Clerk at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church for 32 years and served as a Deacon for 60 years. He also served as Smith Township's Justice of the Peace.

He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Myrtle Herrington; two daughters Rita Shirey and her husband Raymond of Star City; Brenda Pope and her husband Eddie of Sheridan; and one son Wayne Herrington and his wife Kristy of Macedonia; grandchildren, April Pombianchi, Lori Downen and her husband Kevin, Jeremy Shirey and his wife Jessica, Blake Pope and his wife Shannon, Josh Pope, Brooke Harvey and her husband Kirk, and Shelby Boothe and her husband Tucker; great-grandchildren, Cesilee, Hunter, Hayden, Hudson, J.W., Landen, Maddie, River, Ridge, Audrey and Erin. He is also survived by his siblings, John Herrington and Hardy Herrington of Macedonia; Ruth Reed of North Little Rock; Donie Mull of Macedonia; Ethel Golden and Cescel Luker of North Little Rock and Ola Hayes of Monticello, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Mike Herrington, Danny Herrington, Scott Hayes, Donald Mull, Charles Puckett, and Kevin Rains with Paul Reed, Chris Mull, John Reed, James Herrington, Tommy Luker, Rowdy Oubre and Jeff Tayler serving as honorary.

Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at Buie Funeral Home in Rison.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 6, 2021 at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Jackie Richardson and Bro. Sluggo Norris officiating.

Interment will follow in Macedonia Cemetery.
