Earl B. Vore, 77 of Parsons, passed away at 2:54 p.m., Friday, April 30, 2021, at the Freeman West Hospital in Joplin.

He was born on February 2, 1944, in Wichita, Kansas to Earl B., Sr., and Irene J. (Gilkey) Vore. Earl grew up in various places and the family settled in Ft. Scott where he attended Ft. Scott High School graduating in 1962. He attended Ft. Scott Community College and Pittsburg State University where he earned a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.

Earl served in the United States Navy from 1967 to 1973 and was an Electronics Aviation Technician and Petty Officer Second Class. Following his honorable discharge, Earl attended the University of North Florida in Jacksonville where he received a bachelor's degree in history education. He then returned to Pittsburg where he received a master's degree in history from Pittsburg State University.

Earl worked for Wichita State University where he was a career counselor serving students in schools across southeast Kansas in the Upward Bound program. He also worked for many years as a substitute teacher. Earl retired in 2008.

Earl was an avid ham radio operator. He also enjoyed hunting, gun collecting, and the outdoors. Earl was very technologically savvy and could fix and build computers and anything electronic. He also enjoyed social media.

Earl was a life member of the National Rifle Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the American Legion. He was also a member of the Parsons Elks Lodge B.P.O.E No. 527, QCAV radio club, and the Skywarn Labette County Storm Chasers.

He and Emma (Harrigan) Thomas were married on June 4, 1988, at the Wesley United Methodist Church. She survives of the home.

In addition to his wife, Earl is survived by six sons, Michael Vore of Tulsa, OK, Charles Vore, and his companion, Gypsie Collins of Altamont, John Vore, and his wife, Chastity of Oswego, Jason Thomas, and his fiancé, Janine Nelson of Weir, Arron Thomas, and his wife Debra of Independence, and Shawn Harrigan, and his wife, Lisa of Pittsburg; many grandchildren; his two brothers, Bill Vore, and his wife, Gretchen of The Woodlands, TX and Roy Vore, and his wife, Mary Beth, of Shawnee, GA; and a host of relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, May 6, 2021, at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home with Pastor Kevin Bayless officiating. Burial will follow in the Memorial Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8 Wednesday evening. The casket will remain closed. Memorials are suggested to the Parsons Elks Lodge B.P.O.E. No. 527 and these may be left at or mailed to the funeral home 112. N. 26th St., P.O. Box 942, Parsons, KS 67357.
