Homer was born on December 5, 1932, in Lincoln, IL, son of Elmer Cleveland and Georgia Irene (Sparks) Sheley. He married Gwendolyn Halsey on September 15, 1952, in Havana, IL. She preceded him in death on July 6, 1998.
Homer is survived by his children, Marla Sheley and Clint (Pat) Sheley; grandchildren, Candace (Henry) Van Bogaert and Ryan (Kati) Sheley; great-grandchildren, Noah, Alyssa, Morgan and Brooklyn and his siblings, Wayne Sheley, James (Joni) Sheley, Robert Sheley and Jessie Rankin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Howard, George and Richard and his sisters, Dorothy Snyder, Virginia Klockenga, Mildred Maaks and Betty Downs.
Homer proudly served his country in the United States Army and was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lincoln, IL. He was a farmer in Lincoln for most of his life. He was the Chester Township Road Commissioner from 1986-2012.
A time of visitation will take place from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m., on Sunday, April 25, 2021, at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home, in Lincoln, IL. A graveside service for Homer will be 1:00 p.m., Monday, April 26, 2021, at Zion Cemetery, in Lincoln, IL, with Rev. Brian Wachendorf officiating.
Memorials may be made in Homer's name to Safe Haven Hospice or the National Kidney Foundation.
