CELIA BLANCH HUMBARGER-GARLOW

Celia's father was John Wesley Humbarger.
Her mother was Elizabeth Speaker-Humbarger.

On the 1900 census, Celia was listed as "Zella" B. Humbarger age 11; she changed her name to Celia, sometime before her marriage in 1908.
*The times were tough, but the people were tougher...Zella was employed as a "domestic" worker at the time of this 1900 census, at age 11.

On March 12, 1908, 19 year old Celia married a local 24 year old, William Perry Garlow, the son of Perry Commodore Garlow and Margaret Himes-Garlow. They were married in Williams County Ohio, by "I. G. Shaw- Christian Minister".
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
**Celia's birth mother was erroneously listed as 'Clara Nunn' on Celia's marriage application that was filled out by William P. Garlow, Celia's fiance'.
Clara was Celia's step-mother, she had raised Celia since the age of 4. Clara is probably all William knew of, or he did not know the name of Celia's 'birth' mother.
Celia, and everyone, considered Clara as her own mother.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Information from Celia's 'Certificate of Death'

Celia was born on "January 16, 1889" in "Bryan, Ohio".
Her father was "John Humbarger".
**The informant on the certificate was "Wm. P. Garlow", (her husband).

Celia's (birth) mother is again, erroneously listed as "Clara Nunn".
**( Clara actually was Celia's step-mother who had raised her from the age of 4. Clara had married John Humbarger after Celia's mother, Elizabeth Speaker, apparently had died, at about 25 years of age. Have not found any cemetery marker, or the cemetery, as of yet. Burial would be in one of the Williams Center, Bryan, Ohio cemeteries. Any marker seems to have been lost to time, or has been covered over with 130 years of growth)

Celia had given birth to 8 children, with 6 living, by the time she became ill and suddenly died on "Jan 8, 1923" at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, Michigan, from "chronic nephritis".
**( Her grave marker says 1922, but it is another mistake; the Certificate of Death is 1923, as well as all the other Certificates on the microfilm-roll around her listing. Celia's doctor wrote on the cert., "last saw her alive on Jan. 8, 1923".
Marker may have been added at a much later time. The marker is the very same type that was placed 25 years later on husband William's grave which is in a different location in the cemetery. Finances would have been a big concern after the unexpected death at a young age, which left six children still at home. Viola, being the youngest child, was only 3 years of age)

Celia is listed as age "33 years, 11 months, 22 days" at the date of her death, in 1923.

Celia's parents, John Wesley Humbarger and Elizabeth Speaker, had married on March 31, 1887 in Williams County,Ohio by a Justice of the Peace.
John stated that he was '20' years old, and Elizabeth was 18.
John applied for and got the license on March 30th.
Earlier, on March 29th, a (voided) license had stated that he was '21' years old, which was the age required on the license application form for males; 18 for females.

They then had 3 children;
-Cora Bell, born Sept. 16, 1887
-Zella "Celia" Blanch, born Jan. 16, 1889
-Emma Mae, born Apr. 16, 1890

Cora died at 11 months of age, just 5 months before Celia was born.

HUMBARGER.-Cora Bell, only daughter of John and Elizabeth Humbarger, on August 20, 1888, aged 11 months and 4 days."

~~
Celia's middle name has always just been listed as the initial of B on all documents. Have now found a data-base listing old library cards from Grand Ledge, Michigan, and Celia had listed her middle name as Blanch. The same card file also lists William and their daughter, Viola Bell, and son, Vern.

'
Celia's mother, Elizabeth, apparently died prior to early 1893 in Williams Center, Williams County, Ohio.

Widower-John W. Humbarger, then married "Clara" Sophia Nunn, age 16, in Williams County, Ohio, on July 29, 1893, with the written consent of her mother, Mary A. Bair, who filled out the marriage license application.

They were then raising John's two daughters;
Zella (Celia) Blanch
Emma Mae

John and Clara then had many children together;

son-Wilbur Forest
daughter-Florence Bell
daughter-Leona Irene
son-Walter Raymond
