Alex was an Eagle Scout with Troop 86, Revloc, where he was scoutmaster for many years. Member of Camp Money Sunk, where he spent many happy times with family and friends, especially with his grandchildren. A graduate of Ebensburg Cambria High School; received a bachelor's degree in industrial arts and mathematics from California State Teacher's College; and a master's degree from the University of Pittsburgh. He taught at Lilly-Washington School before and after it became part of the Penn Cambria School District, from 1949 to 1983. Alex was a World War II veteran. Charter member of VFW Post 4963, Ebensburg. Member of American Legion, Post 363. Alex will be missed by his at-home caregiver, Luisa, and by his friends at Just Like Home, who took special care of Alex and became part of his family. He attended Protection of the BVM Ukrainian Catholic Church, Revloc, since its inception in 1926. Viewing will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 7, at Matevish and Matevish Funeral Home, Ebensburg, where Parastas will be held at 2:30 p.m. A brief ceremony will be held at the funeral home at 9 a.m. Friday, followed by funeral Liturgy at 10 a.m. at Protection of the BVM Ukrainian Catholic Church, Father Andrew Krasulski, celebrant. Interment, Holy Name Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, make donations to a charity of your choice in memory of Alex.
