John Jones was a member of the old Welsh Neck Baptist Church, originally situated on the east bank of the Pee Dee River, where the now abandoned original cemetery was located (Old Welsh Neck Cemetery, also known as the gravesite of Abel Kolb). The former burial ground, situated in the woods, contains only a few remaining legible grave markers. The church was relocated in 1798.
