Sarah Alice (Sadie) Burton, age 90, of Iola, Kansas, passed away April 9, 2021, at Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center, Chanute, Kansas. Sadie was born January 11, 1931, in Yates Center, Kansas, to William Sorenson and Jessie Blanche (Wilhite) Sorenson.
Sadie graduated in 1949 from Yates Center High School, Yates Center, Kansas, She attended cosmetology school in Kansas City, Missouri, and was a beautician in Kansas City, Missouri, Independence, Missouri, Liberal, Kansas, Yates Center, Kansas, and Iola, Kansas. Sadie fixed hair for over 60 years at Swirls & Curls and then in her home.
Sadie and Lyle Burton were married in 1958 and made their home in Iola, Kansas.
Sadie was a member of the Iola Baptist Temple since 1963, where she played the piano for 50 years.
Sadie enjoyed collecting crystal bells, reading, and sewing. She liked playing the piano in church. Sadie loved people.
Sadie was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; son, Michael Burton; daughter, Susan Burton; step-son, Douglas Burton; and siblings, Paul, Jerome, Juanita, Keith, Ruth, Norman, and Marvin.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 14, 2021, at the Iola Baptist Temple, 426 North Second Street, Iola, Kansas. Burial will follow in the Yates Center Cemetery, Yates Center, Kansas.
