Abram Blakesley age 18 enlisted in Company D, 161st NY Infantry Regiment 22 August 1862 at Bath, Steuben County, NY. The regiment joined Geo. Banks Department of the Gulf in Louisiana Dec. 1862. Engaged in the Red River campaign.

Abram died of injury while aboard the Union gunboat USS Sachem at Battle of Sabine Pass, Texas.
He is listed second from top under the 161st Regiment NY Volunteers on the Union Memorial at Sabine Pass Battlefield Park.

He is one of four sons born to George Blakesley [Sr] & his first wife Marthia Stanton [b. 1824 - d.abt 1850]
