Mr. Kenny Mitchell, age 67, of Nebo, North Carolina, departed to be with the Lord peacefully on the night of Saturday, April 03, 2021 at his residence. Kenny's loved ones were by his side. A lifelong resident of McDowell County, North Carolina, he was born on September 25, 1953 to the late Welding and Florence Barlowe Mitchell.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Roger Mitchell.
A member of Victory Temple Full Gospel Church in Nebo, the impact of Kenny's involvement in the Dysartsville Community is very well known and far-reaching. He proudly served as a member of the Dysartsville Volunteer Fire Department, where he took great pride in serving the citizens of McDowell County, even at an early age. He had served as Safety Officer and at one time as a Lieutenant. Kenny loved going to Killough's Music and Loan on weekends and sharing his singing abilities. Most of all, it meant the world to Kenny to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Left to cherish his memories are his beautiful and loving wife of 39 years, Carolyn Mitchell; one daughter, Sabrina Taylor (Brandon); one son, Terry Mitchell; and three precious grandchildren; Lakota Marrow, Andon Taylor and Hunter Taylor. He is also survived by one brother, Jim Mitchell; one sister, Sandra Pearson; Mr. Doug Barlowe, who was like a brother; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends he had met along his journey.
A funeral service was held on Wednesday, April 07, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. at Yancey Street Baptist Church, 302 East Yancey Street in Marion, with Pastor Pete McCombs officiating. The family received friends from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., two hours prior to the service, at the church. Interment followed the service at Victory Temple Full Gospel Church Cemetery.
