Florence Barlowe Mitchell, 69, of Marion, died Sunday, May 12, 1996, at her residence.

A native of McDowell County, she was a daughter of the late Vernie Rudolph Barlowe and Eva Jane McGee Barlowe. She was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church. She was employed as an Avon representative for 28 years. She was a volunteer at The McDowell Hospital and the Red Cross. She belonged to the Zion Hill Home Extension Club and the West Marion Community School Association.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Welding H. Mitchell and an infant daughter, Dottie Sue Mitchell.

Surviving are three sons, Jim Mitchell, Roger Mitchell and Kenneth Mitchell; a daughter, Sandra Mitchell Pearson; two brothers, Clinton Barlowe and Cecil Barlowe; two sisters, Anna Lee Lawing and Mamie Reel; and seven grandchildren.

The funeral was held by the Revs. Tom Walker and Leo Kuykendall at 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, 1996 at Zion Hill Baptist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery.
