Vernon Francis Maeder, the son of Joseph Tolbert and Julia Ann (Waters) Maeder, was born on June 9, 1925, in Cass County, south of Massena, Iowa. Vern entered eternal rest on November 5, 2009, at Creston Nursing and Rehab Center, Creston, Iowa, at the age of eighty-four years, four months, and twenty-nine days.

Vern attended country schools in Cass and Adair counties. He graduated from Richland High School with the Class of 1943. Vern served in the United States Army Air Force from 1943 until 1945 during World War II. On December 28, 1950, he married Barbara Jane Blazek at Greenfield, Iowa.

Vern has lived in Cass, Adair, and Adams counties all of his life. He spent two years in the service and returned to the family farm where he was raised in 1945. Vern was a farmer all of his life. He worked for the Adams County ASCS for thirty-five years. He farmed in Adair County until 1954 and farmed in Adams County until January, 2009. He was a member of the Creston Eagles Lodge and the Elks Lodge in Creston. He was also a member of the VFW in Creston; the Williamson American Legion and Holy Spirit Catholic Church.

Preceding Vern in death were his Parents; his wife in 1979; Three Brothers: Bert Maeder, during WWII; Jack Maeder and Earl Maeder; Two Sisters: Ilene Maeder; and Bertha Kembery; Five Brothers-in-Law: Melvin Lents; Richard Johnson; Maurice Kembery; LeRoy Blazek and Charles Blazek, Jr.; One Sister-in-Law: Coleen Banks; One Great-Niece and Two Great-Nephews.
