Lavorn "Sonny" Moore, Jr., 83, of Chattanooga, passed away Wednesday, March 31, 2021 in the Hospice Care Center. His formative years were spent in Gadsden, Alabama where he attended grade school and graduated from Carver High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Lavorn was a faithful member of Orchard Knob Missionary Baptist Church. Lavorn retired after 23 years as a process server with Hamilton County Juvenile Court. He was a Mason and a member of the 100 Black Men.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lavorn and Lottie Mae Moore, Sr.; sister, Lavornia Prather; and brother, Gary Moore.
Survivors include his daughters, Terrie Moore-Evans, Kimberly Moore-Reed, and Traci Moore; son, Kenneth Moore; grandchildren, Corey Lewis, Kyra Reed, Casey Moore, Brooke Moore, Kenneth Moore, Jr., Jakena Moore, Brilegh Moore, and Kim Greer, all of Chattanooga; a host of other relatives and friends.
He will lie in state on Tuesday, April 6, at 9 a.m. at Taylor Funeral Home with the family service to follow at 12:30 p.m. in the chapel with Pastor Robert Rice as the eulogist.
