1780 - Rowan, N.C., He was a Lt. under Capt. John Bandon and Col William Richardson Davie in the N.C. State Calvary, Western Division. He became a Lt. after Lt. George Locke was killed at the battle of Charlotte. Capt. John Brandon was his brother. N. C. Patriots 1775-1783, Their Own Words, Vol. 2, Part 2.

In memory of Matthew Brandon who died on the 9th of Sept 1819 aged 68 years; also of his wife Jane Brandon who died on the 3d of Feb'y 1819 aged 63 1/2 years.
